Sustainable transportation
Underlying the approach of sustainable transportation is the desire to provide the needed services while minimizing air pollution and harm to the environment.
The use of bicycles and scooters are a key component in sustainable transportation, and the creation of a continuous infrastructure for bicycle paths is a key component in encouraging their use. For this purpose, designated lanes and paths for bicycles are allocated at the expense of travel and parking lanes for vehicles, as well as additional paths in open areas that support and expand the network.
Pedestrians are also given priority in planning sustainable transportation and, for their benefit, wide sidewalks and safe zebra crossings are planned for crossing in continuum with pedestrian paths.
Our firm has extensive experience in designing bicycle paths that integrate with existing roads, designing dedicated bicycle paths such as in Emek Arazim in Jerusalem, designing continuous walkways for pedestrians in conjunction with landscape consultants, etc.
Upgrading and improving public transportation, mass transportation and collaborative travel are also key elements in the concept of sustainable transportation. On one hand, they enable populations who do not own private vehicles, including children, soldiers and the elderly, to get around on their own. On the other hand, they motivate drivers to abandon the private vehicle in favor of alternative means of transport.
In such design, it is of central importance to provide solutions for the “first and last mile” between the bus stop and the origin or destination.
